Timeshift sets its rear view mirror to look back at the golden age of the British sports car. It's the story of how - in the grey austerity of the post-war years - iconic marques like Jaguar, Austin-Healey, MG and Triumph sparked a manufacturing frenzy that helped to democratise speed and glamour. From the MG Midget, much loved by American GIs, through to the more affordable Austin Healey 'frog-eye' Sprite, and the E-Type Jaguar, seen by many as the ultimate sports car, this is a tale of how, for a brief time, Britain was home to two-seater heaven. Narrated by Tamsin Greig and featuring contributions from Stirling Moss and Quentin Willson.

Its a little known fact that in the early 1900s, spy novels dealing with the fictional threat of German invasion actually led to the formation of the secret intelligence services MI5 and MI6. Bill Nighy narrates the story of the long and often extraordinary relationship between fact and fiction in the mysterious world of British espionage. The programme charts the evolution of real spies and spying through the twentieth century, and looks at the parallel development of spy fiction during the same period.

Spy Stories covers the milestones in the fact and fiction of British spy history. The programme shows how fiction writers in novels, films and television responded to the changing nature of the reality of espionage.

Contributors include: Dame Stella Rimington (former Director-General, MI5), Baroness Daphne Park (former Senior Controller, MI6), David Shayler, Charlie Higson, Prof. Bernard Porter, Dr Nick Hiley and Stephen Dorril.

For decades we were alternately warned that robots could take over the planet or promised that they would liberate us from the drudgery of everyday labour, but in the real world scientists struggled to design robots that could even climb the stairs. Yet the continued appeal of the Star Wars films, the remake of the TV classic A for Andromeda and the return of the Cybermen to Doctor Who all prove that there is artificial life in the machine men yet.
