Prog Rock Britannia: An Observation in Three Movements Documentary about progressive music and the generation of bands that were involved, from the international success stories of Yes, Genesis, ELP, King Crimson and Jethro Tull to the trials and tribulations of lesser-known bands such as Caravan and Egg. The film is structured in three parts, charting the birth, rise and decline of a movement famed for complex musical structures, weird time signatures, technical virtuosity and strange, and quintessentially English, literary influences. It looks at the psychedelic pop scene that gave birth to progressive rock in the late 1960s, the golden age of progressive music in the early 1970s, complete with drum solos and gatefold record sleeves, and the over-ambition, commercialisation and eventual fall from grace of this rarefied musical experiment at the hands of punk in 1977. Contributors include Robert Wyatt, Mike Oldfield, Pete Sinfield, Rick Wakeman, Phil Collins, Arthur Brown, Carl Palmer and Ian Anderson.

In the early 60s, Motown transcended Detroit's inner city to take black music to a white audience, whilst in the late 60s suburban kids like the MC5 and the Stooges descended into the black inner city to create revolutionary rock expressing the rage of young white America.

With contributions from Iggy Pop, Alice Cooper, George Clinton, Martha Reeves, John Sinclair and the MC5.

In Britain today, what were once luxuries are fast becoming everyday items. From electrical gadgets to leather handbags and shoes, as more and more is consumed, products are increasingly disposable. Would consumers care more if they knew the human cost of making luxuries?

The Brits head to the isolated mining town of Ilakaka in Madagascar to discover where the gems and jewellery sold on the British high street come from. In the vast open-pit mines they join hundreds of workers in chain gangs digging for one of the most sought-after gems in the world - sapphires. When the back-breaking work becomes too much for James, Alexandria and Lucy they're shocked to discover the alternative - a makeshift 50-foot-deep mine shaft accessed by rope and pulley.

Soon it's not just the extreme working conditions and hand-to-mouth existence of the locals that shock the Brits, but the value of the rough stones compared to the expensive shiny jewellery for sale in Western shops. Will they have the same love for luxuries again?

The Brits leave Madagascar and head to one of Africa's poorest countries, Ethiopia, and its capital Addis Ababa where they join some of the thousands of locals who rely on the leather industry to survive.

Working in abattoirs, tanneries and leather factories that supply shoes to Europe's high streets tempers begin to fray. Sam and Alex lose patience with Oscar, as does the supervisor. But when the girls discover how little money one of the young shoe factory workers has to live on, they in turn take on the boss.

Shocked by the realisation that our leather goods have such poor beginnings, the Brits soon learn that the bigger luxury is the one we take for granted - the luxury of choice. Will anyone ever have the same love for their leather goods again?

The Brits leave Ethiopia's capital behind and travel south to the famous coffee plantations of Yirgacheffe and the remote mountain village of Biolya. Here, life gets even tougher as for the first time they have no help from a local family and must survive only on the wages paid to a coffee worker. But will they be able to do enough work to afford to eat and pay rent on their simple mud hut?

To survive, the Brits must pool their money and work as a family, but when their team needs to be strong it starts falling apart - George becomes ill, Lucy can't cope and Oscar decides to go it alone.

Just when everything is getting too much, they are surprised by a new arrival, self-confessed coffee addict Shievonne. But will her favourite drink ever taste the same again?

The Brits travel to Ghana to mine one of our oldest and most precious luxuries, gold, but also discover the impact of one of Africa's newest imports, e-waste.

Joining some of the thousands of men and women who mine gold by hand, the Brits struggle to cope as exhaustion bites, tempers fray and Shievonne collapses - making the Brits question if gold truly deserves its luxurious label.

But nothing the Brits have seen so far prepares them for the electrical dump site. Here, young children smash and break computers from the west in search of valuable copper - a means of survival that not only puts their health on the line but also their lives.

Will any of the Brits ever have the same love for their luxuries again?

　【技術】 Technology

On the final leg of their journey the Brits leave Africa for the Philippines to discover where components for our mp3 players, DVDs and computers come from.

They join the workers in the ultra-competitive world of electronics, where productivity is everything and factories produce hundreds of thousands of components a day. It's a multi-billion pound industry and with so much at stake five mistakes in a million is too many.

When the Brits join the highly disciplined workers on the sterile factory floor, their lack of focus becomes a major issue and Oscar quits.

After five long weeks the Brits are due to return home, but not before they learn the level of sacrifice the workers make to support their families and are able to reunite a young woman with her two-year-old son. They also learn that the alternatives to factory life aren't quite what they seem as they meet the families who live and work on the city dumpsites.

As they head back to the UK leaving the slums and mud huts behind them, will their luxury lives at home ever be the same again?

Visiting the world's first known map, etched into the rocks of a remote alpine hillside 3,000 years ago, Brotton explores how each culture develops its own unique, often surprising way of mapping. As Henry VIII's stunning maps of the British coastline from a bird's eye view show, they were also used to exert control over the world. During the Enlightenment, the great French Cassini dynasty pioneered the western quest to map the world with greater scientific accuracy, leading also to the British Ordnance Survey. But these new scientific methods were challenged by cultures with alternative ways of mapping, such as in a Polynesian navigator's map which has no use for north, south and east. As scientifically accurate map-making became a powerful tool of European expansion, the British carved the state of Iraq out of the Middle East. When the British drew up Iraq's boundaries, they had devastating consequences for the nomadic tribes of Mesopotamia.

Religious passion inspires beautiful medieval maps of the world, showing the way to heaven, the pilgrims' route to Jerusalem and monstrous children who eat their parents. But by the Victorian era society is obsessed with race, poverty and disease. Royal cartographer James Wyld's world map awards each country a mark from one to five, depending on how 'civilised' he deems each nation to be. And a map made to help Jewish immigrants in the East End inadvertently fuels anti-semitism. 'Map wars' break out in the 1970s when left-wing journalist Arno Peters claims that the world map shown in most atlases was a lie that short-changed the developing world. In Zurich, Brotton talks to Google Earth about the cutting edge of cartography and at Worldmapper he sees how social problems such as infant mortality and HIV are strikingly portrayed on computer-generated maps that bend the world out of shape and reflect the spirit of our age.

In the last of a three-part series about the extraordinary stories behind maps, Professor Jerry Brotton uncovers how maps are snapshots of a moment in history and offer visions of distant lands, tempting explorers to plunder and conquer. However, adventurers first had to tackle the great challenge of mapping the globe onto a flat surface. There is no perfect solution, but the father of geography, Claudius Ptolemy, had some clever ideas. Explorers like Christopher Columbus sailed into the unknown in search of riches and discovered a whole new continent that would become the most powerful on earth, while Amerigo Vespucci gave it his name. Sir Walter Raleigh's treasure map of Eldorado in South America ultimately lost him his head. But the myth of Eldorado lived on, sending hundreds of men to their death in fruitless attempts to find the golden city. As navigation became easier, maps enabled nations and enterprises like the Dutch East India Company to plunder far-off territories for spices, natural resources and gold. Even today, a project to map the North Pole is the flashpoint for the so-called 'Cold Rush' - the dash to exploit oil, gas and mineral reserves as the Arctic ice melts.

Filmed in part across Iran during the run up to the 2009 election and presented by Sadeq Saba.

Born almost 1000 years ago in Persia, Omar Khayyam was an astronomer, mathematician and poet. His contribution to algebra and geometry has sealed his reputation as one the greatest mathematicians of all time; and a lunar crater has been named after him for his advances in astronomy.

Omar Khayyam lived during a medieval golden age of science and learning in the East. He was among a group of pioneering scientists who were influenced by ideas from ancient Greece, India and China. The film reveals how Islam and the advancement of science went hand in hand.

In the West, Khayyam is best known for the Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam most famously translated by a Victorian man of letters called Edward Fitzgerald. Published in 1859, the same year as Darwin's On the Origin of Species, the film shows how and why the Rubaiyat became one of the most famous poems in the English language, attracting a who's who of literary admirers including Thomas Hardy, TS Eliot and Arthur Conan Doyle.

A decade after its success in England, the Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam was published in America where its message of live for the day instantly captured the public imagination. Its popularity spawned all sorts of products including Omar tooth powder, playing cards, and the first illustrated editions of the Rubaiyat. America's favourite poet, Walt Whitman was a fan, and soldiers took miniature copies of the Rubaiyat to the battleground.

Omar Khayyam remains a significant figure in present day Iran, and the film explores why despite his apparent religious scepticism, Khayyam's philosophy continues to resonate with modern Iranians.

Jamie's in Morocco, dodging snake charmers to try out the street food of Marrakesh, like slow-roasted lamb in cumin, and almond and rose water cakes. Later he joins a family for some Moroccan home cooking, and makes his own versions of chicken and lemon tagine, Moroccan roast lamb, and a `snakey cake' made of filo pastry, almonds and rose petals.

　Andalucia

Jamie travels to Andalucia, where he trains with some young bullfighters in Spain's oldest bull ring, makes paella for a whole village, and cooks rabbit stew with some hunters. He also prepares an authentic gazpacho, pork chops with Spanish beans, salt-roasted fish, an amazing tomato salad with chorizo, and a quail's egg breakfast with black pudding.

　Stockholm

Jamie is in Stockholm, where he samples reindeer heart, a fermented herring that smells like a stink bomb, and also picks wild mushrooms and blueberries on the islands nearby. He also makes pike perch, gravadlax and roasted beetroot salad.

　Venice

Jamie's in Venice, getting away from the tourist traps, and experiencing the delicious authentic tastes the real Venice has to offer. Jamie tries his hand at fishing and cooks up spaghetti vongole. He learns the secret to making the best risotto in the world, and also prepares a beef carpaccio, and a perfect Venetian tiramisu.

　The French

Jamie goes truffle-hunting and wild boar hunting in the French Pyrenees. He also prepares a classic tarte tatin, Roquefort salad, an old school confit of duck, and a country-style terrine. He is also inducted into a brotherhood of serious bread makers and learns the secrets of their ancient loaves.

　Athens

Jamie cooks kebabs in the shadow of the Acropolis, tries his hand at souvlaki, joins friends for meze and Greek dancing, milks a goat with a priest, prepares a perfect Greek salad, and cooks tuna straight from the sea on the beach.

Today, more than half the world's population live in cities, and this eye-opening series shows what life is really like in some of the toughest parts of the world's fastest growing megacity. This fascinating look at how people are adapting to modern city life in the 21st century by exploring the slums and ghettos of Lagos, Nigeria. More than 50 per cent of the world's population now live in cities, and that figure is expected to rise to over 70 per cent by 2050. The answer to where humanity could be heading might be found in the lives of the inhabitants of Lagos, one of the world's fastest-growing cities.

　Olusosun Rubbish Dump

The first episode uncovers life in the Olusosun rubbish dump. Here, around 1000 people live on top of the rubbish in houses built from scrap. The film follows the daily lives of two men who have become skilled at turning rubbish into gold. Eric, aka Vocal Slender, is a musician, and every bit of scrap he finds brings him one step closer to his dream of launching his music career, but a serious fight nearly ruins his chances. Joseph is a trader who works hard to provide for his wife and two small children, and who has filled his house with things he has found on the dump. 'If there was a bigger, dirtier, stinkier dump where I could earn more money for my family, then I'd go there to work,' he says. With extraordinary access to some of the poorest parts of town, the series celebrates the resilience, resourcefulness and energy of Lagos's 16 million inhabitants, and shows how successfully many of its slum dwellers are adapting to the realities of the world's increasingly extreme urban future.

　Makoko

Lagos's version of Venice is a slum, built on water, called Makoko. This three-part observational series continues to explore one of the most extreme urban environments on the planet, by taking a trip into the lives of those who choose to live and work on the waters of Lagos Lagoon. Chubbey is a fisherman who lives in a house built on stilts. With 18 children and five grandchildren to support, he has become an expert at making money from the most unlikely of places. Whether he is building a fish pond in the same water he uses as a lavatory, or renting out a spare room which he has not even built yet, he has always got some scheme or another on the go. But when his teenage son starts to hang out with a local gang, he is left with a dilemma familiar to parents all over the world. Paul is a saw operator at Ebute Metta, the largest timber yard in West Africa. All the wood that goes into building Lagos passes through this place, floated in on enormous rafts, some over a kilometre long. Paul still sleeps in the saw mill, and would like nothing more than to get a place of his own in Makoko. But so many of his fellow workers keep getting killed that he finds it very hard to save any money, because he keeps having to spend it all on funerals. Kissme and Daniel are two 'sandboys', who make their living diving for sand from the bottom of the Lagoon and selling it to the building trade. Between them they can fill two dumper trucks a day, collecting every grain of it by hand, with an old iron bucket. As humans begin to come to terms with an increasingly urban future, this series offers unprecedented access and insight into the lives of just some of the millions of slum dwellers who are living at the sharp end of the fastest growing megacity in the world.

　Kuramo Beach

For over six years, Esther has been living with her husband Segun in a house they built themselves from cardboard, scrap wood and tarpaulin on the beach in central Lagos. Every time the government sends its task force to bulldoze their village, she and the thousand or so other inhabitants soon pick up the pieces and build another one. Her best friend, Blessing, is about to give birth here and Esther is worried for her safety. But when she discovers text messages from another woman on her husband's phone, she suddenly has problems of her own to deal with. Meanwhile, politicians in Lagos are planning sweeping changes to improve the infrastructure and attractiveness of Lagos. Part of their plan to turn it into a 'megacity' involves demolishing the slums, which house so many of its inhabitants. The film follows Sagede, a member of the newly established Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Enforcement Unit, which targets illegal dwellings all over the city and clears away everything in its path.

正统十四年(1449)，蒙古瓦剌太师也先因进马虚报领赏，遭朝廷惩罚大为不满，以明朝廷”赏不如例”藉口领兵大举进犯，明英宗也率五十万官兵亲征。但亲征的结局是以“中央帝国”的惨败而告终，明王朝的鼎盛期也就从此结束。

　【北京保卫战 】

明英宗生死不明的消息很快传到京城，满朝震惊。而此时，风头正劲的瓦剌人已经把下一个目标瞄准了大明王朝的心脏—-北京。

　【夺门之变 – 明代宗 】

土木之变时，瓦剌人将明英宗带回大漠，一年后又将他放回北京，期间景帝受命，登临大位，并册立英宗的长子为皇太子，之所以选择朱祁钰，这是从国家安危的角度考虑的，但这个做法，却为日后的易储风波埋下了隐患。

　【荒唐天子朱厚照 – 明武宗 】

关于他的一生，有很多的传说。有人说他贪杯、好色，所行之事荒谬不经，是少见的无道昏君；但也有人认为，这个皇帝处事刚毅果断，弹指之间诛刘瑾，平安化王、宁王之叛，应州大败蒙古小王子，精通佛学，会梵文，是个极具个性色彩的皇帝。

　【大礼仪之争 – 明世宗-上(嘉靖) 】

明正德十六年，明武宗病逝，遗诏决定由兴献王的长子，朱厚熜继承皇位。继位后，朱厚熜谕令礼部，集议他父亲兴献王的尊称，因此引发了“大礼议之争”，其争论的焦点就是：朱厚熜到底是称孝宗为父亲还是称兴献王为父亲的问题……

　【神仙皇帝 -- 明世宗-下(嘉靖) 】

大臣的反对，宫女的叛变，爱妃的惨死，这一连串的打击让嘉靖皇帝陷入了深深的思索。或许是万念俱灰，或许是大彻大悟，或许是惧怕再发生变故，总之嘉靖皇帝再也不想在大内住下去了……。

　【怠政皇帝 – 明神宗-上(万历) 】

张居正死后初期，神宗尚能保持对朝政的兴趣，但不久就开始怠政。万历十四年后，神宗就开始连续不上朝。万历十七年元旦后，神宗以日食为由免去元旦朝贺。自万历十六年后，神宗整日在深宫中不理政事，沉浸在花天酒地之中。

　【怠政皇帝 – 明神宗-下(万历) 】

万历十七年，神宗沉湎于酒、色、财、气。还派矿监和税监搜刮民间财产。在边境上坐视女真强大，由于神宗不理朝政，缺官现象非常严重。万历卅年政府完全陷入空转之中，因此明史言：“论者谓：明之亡，实亡于神宗。

　【明宫三案-上 – 梃击案 】

明朝末期，紫禁城内接二连三的发生了一些大事。其中有三件大事都发生在明万历和泰昌年间。朱常洛当了十几年的太子，期间多次面临废与立的精神折磨。当他三十而立之后，发生了“梃击”案，因为背后错综复杂的关系反倒稳定了他的太子地位。

　【明宫三案-下 – 红丸、移宫案 】

没想到五年后，一个被用来救命的“红丸”使得刚刚当了三十天皇帝的朱常洛命丧黄泉。朱常洛死后也得不到安宁，因为他的后妃为了争夺权利而导致了“移宫”案的发生……这三个案件，看似已经解决，却因为疑点重重，成为不解之谜。

　【崇桢智除魏忠贤 】

就其个人能力而言，崇祯不乏为一个好皇帝。也是相对在亡国之君里挨駡较少的皇帝。“君非亡国之君”但他多疑和好杀的性格却成了王朝致命点，而他的机智与才能，在处理魏忠贤事件，表现的淋漓尽致。
