影片内容介绍

剧情简介

This extraordinary interview reveals the ordeal of Natascha Kampusch, imprisoned in a cellar for eight years by Wolfgang Priklopil.

Although her story has since been pushed slightly down the league table of horror by the similar experiences of Elisabeth Fritzl and Jaycee Lee Dugard, Natascha – snatched on her way to school in Vienna in March 1998 – emerges as a startlingly self-possessed, intelligent and articulate young woman who is even able to feel compassion and insight for the sick individual who stole her childhood.

In recalling details of the dank, musty dungeon in which she was held, Natascha holds nothing back. Utterly calm, she relates how her captor violently and brutally exerted total control over her, humiliated her, kept her hungry, forbade her even to cry in case her tears damaged the tiles and how she bided her time until she was able to escape.

“Because the whole situation is so hideously unjust, you shouldn’t allow yourself to give up,” Natascha explains. “That would be an admission of defeat. There was a kind of fighting spirit that kept me alive.” Incredibly, in the eight years her daughter was missing, her mother, Brigitta – also interviewed here – never doubted her daughter’s fierce survival instinct for a minute.

劇情簡介

Proper disposal of sewage and waste is something all societies face if they are to prevent the spread of disease and epidemics. As populations have Bobby Bogna周游美国各地,解构我们平日里最爱的美食,解释食物背后的真相,向我们介绍了食物的惊人历史,以及来自世界各地的材料如何成为我们的盘中餐。

分集介绍

 Hotdogs & Beer

An afternoon at the ballpark isn't complete without a few trips to the concession stand. Today, more than ever, food service venders offer increasingly finer fare, but American fans still eat more hot dogs than any other ballpark food--22 million a year at Major League ballparks alone. Have you ever wondered what really goes into a hot dog? What does a pine tree have to do with its shape? When you wash it down with a draft beer, would you believe a flower is responsible for its bitter taste? And, there is more to that tasty morsel at the bottom of a Drumstick than just sweetness. Bobby Bognar travels to Washington's Yakima Valley to help farmers grow the spice of beer. In Michigan, he uncovers how a special hybrid of popcorn is vital to making Cracker Jack. In Arkansas, he reveals wood pulp is responsible for giving hot dogs their uniform shape. And in Missouri, he discovers the culprit responsible for the mustard stain on his shirt.

 Pizza

Delivered or in a restaurant, thick crust or thin, plain cheese or loaded with toppings, pizza is the favorite we can't resist. Americans eat 350 slices every second--or 100 acres of pizza every day. Over the course of a year, that's enough pizza to cover every inch of Manhattan--twice! Host Bobby Bognar explores the fascinating world behind every bite of pizza we take. Did you know that one of its key ingredients is bacteria? That the crust starts off as a living, breathing organism? That there's a never-ending race to get fresh basil to your local pizzeria to pep up your sauce? Bobby helps transform milk into mozzarella, discovers the surprising spice that gives pepperoni its kick, ventures deep into an abandoned mine to see the secrets of the world's largest mushroom farm, and finds out what turns green olives black. And at a New York factory that makes brick pizza ovens, he learns why millions won't eat a pizza cooked in anything else.

 All You Can Eat

Host Bobby Bognar travels to America's buffet capital, Las Vegas, to kick off a nationwide exploration of our most popular buffet dishes. Off the sunny Florida coast, Bobby discovers that the secret to catching shrimp is to tickle them. In snowy Wisconsin, he finds out what makes the horseradish for our cocktail sauce so spicy. In California, he dons a protective suit to see how bees make the honey that will glaze another buffet favorite, ham. Can you guess how many flowers bees have to visit to make just one pound of honey? And at a sugar cane farm in Hawaii, he follows the fascinating process of making the sweet stuff key to every buffet dessert. Finally, Bobby explores the immense logistical challenge of staging the buffet itself. And what better place to do that than the biggest buffet in Vegas, the Rio Carnival World Buffet, where an army of chefs whip up 380 different dishes for 4,000 hungry diners every day.

 Italian Dinner

For generations, people have been gathering around the table to experience the traditional recipes of America's most popular ethnic cuisine--Italian food. Have you ever met anyone who hasn't tried pasta? Probably not since Americans eat over 2 billion pounds of it each year. But pasta's just a part of our big Italian family dinner. Host Bobby Bognar travels from coast to coast in search of what makes this dinner so special. He'll trawl the waters off North Carolina and crawl the forests of New Mexico for the ingredients in our pasta sauces. In New York, he'll learn the secret behind pasta's many shapes. Then he'll press some California grapes and learn how one type of bacteria makes both vinegar and wine. And when it's time for dessert, Bobby goes from New Jersey, where he learns the difference between gelato and ice cream, all the way to Costa Rica for an after-dinner caffeine boost.

 Pancakes & Bacon

From IHOP's to greasy spoons, there's nothing sweeter than a pancake breakfast. Did you know that the secret to making pancakes rise lies 800 feet below the earth's surface? What's really in breakfast sausage? And how can orange juice be fresh all year round? Host Bobby Bognar crisscrosses the country to reveal what's behind a seemingly simple pancake breakfast. He'll drop in on a pig farmer whose prize hog has fathered thousands of offspring, and then get fresh with a cow in a quest to learn if there really is butter in buttermilk pancakes.

 Southern Fried

Nothing beats the taste of a Southern fried meal--and host Bobby Bognar traces its amazing journey to your plate. In Alabama, Bobby wades among 275,000 catfish during feeding time--and discovers how each fish scooped from the pond becomes a fillet within just one hour. At a Louisiana alligator farm, he dares to grab a gator from its holding tank, and learns how gators owe their survival--in part--to those who eat them. Did you know that one popular Southern favorite, rice, reaches your plate by falling from the sky? Or what it takes to extract frying oil from a lint-covered cottonseed? Or what makes the South's favorite spicy condiment, Tabasco sauce, so hot? And what do giant fans, fire and cannons have to do with putting peach cobbler on the table?

 Mexican

With Americans eating more than 85 billion tortillas a year, Mexican Food is very popular. But did you know that a donkey is a key to great tequila? Ever wondered how many times they refry refried beans? And what do sound waves have to do with guacamole? Watch host Bobby Bognar as he travels south of the border to help an old artist make a classic Mexican cooking dish from volcanic rock. On the high seas, he'll try to keep his cookies in a rough and tumble hunt for mahi mahi. And he'll show us how a fruit that resembles a human brain becomes a classic Mexican after-dinner drink.

 Lunch Box

From playgrounds to office cubicles, we love chowing down a meal from the lunch box. Ever wonder why a peanut butter sandwich sticks to the roof of your mouth? Did you know baby carrots might all be purple if it weren't for the Dutch? What mysterious filling other than vanilla creme used to be inside a Twinkie? Host Bobby Bognar seeks out the answers to these and other intriguing questions as he travels across America uncovering the secrets of our favorite lunch box treats. Along the way, he discovers everything from how the juice starts flowing into a juice box before it has a bottom to hold it...to the surprise that awaits us if we look inside a Goldfish cracker after we bite it.

 Chinese Take Out

Since an influx of Chinese immigrants to America in the mid 1800s, Americans have devoured Chinese take-out. But have you ever wondered what's really in an egg roll? What is the secret ingredient in beef and broccoli? And did you know a fortune cookie can actually make you rich? Host Bobby Bognar is off to the far reaches of America to find some ancient Chinese secrets. From the amount of salt in those hard to open soy sauce packets, to the waxing of Pekin Ducks, it's time for take out ...Chinese style.

 Cheeseburger & Fries

A cheeseburger and a side of fries--last year, Americans ate over 7 billion of them. And there's an amazing story behind every one. Any idea how they get the sesame seeds to stick to the bun? What does it take to stuff 20 tomatoes inside a ketchup bottle? And what's the secret to getting the dill in dill pickle chips? Host Bobby Bognar sets off on a quest to find out, as he travels the country to unearth the hidden mysteries inside our cheeseburger and fries. It's the science behind perfectly melting cheese, the production of jet-black seeds that sprout into Spanish onions, and a French Fry factory where every day mountains of potatoes are sliced and diced in to 36 million French fries.

影片内容介绍

劇情簡介

What made America? What makes us? These two questions are at the heart of the new PBS series Faces of America with Henry Louis Gates, Jr. Building on the success of his series African American Lives (called by the New York Times “the most exciting and stirring documentary on any subject to appear on television in a long time”) and African American Lives 2, Harvard scholar Henry Louis Gates, Jr. again turns to the latest tools of genealogy and genetics to explore the family histories of 12 renowned Americans. The series premieres nationally Wednesdays, February 10 – March 3, 2010 from 8 – 9 p.m. ET on PBS (check local listings).

Looking beyond the black experience to the wider immigrant experience, Professor Gates unravels the American tapestry, following the threads of his guests’ lives back to their earliest origins around the globe. Along the way, the many stories he uncovers — of displacement and homecoming, of material success and dispossession, of assimilation and discrimination — illuminate the American experience. Professor Gates’ guests include professor and poet Elizabeth Alexander, who composed and read the poem at President Barack Obama’s inauguration, chef Mario Batali, comedian Stephen Colbert, novelist Louise Erdrich, journalist Malcolm Gladwell, actress Eva Longoria, musician Yo-Yo Ma, director Mike Nichols, Her Majesty Queen Noor, television host/heart surgeon Dr. Mehmet Oz, actress Meryl Streep, and figure skater Kristi Yamaguchi.

分集介绍

 Our American Stories

Episode One will explore the dynamic and shifting relationship America had with her new immigrants in the 20th century. World war tore apart families; and sundered the fabric of many lives; but America beckoned and millions came. Yet, America was an ambivalent host. At its best, a place of refuge and salvation, as for film director Mike Nichols whose entire family escaped Nazi Germany. At its worst, a country that would imprison two generations of Japanese Americans, like the ancestors of Olympic gold medalist Kristi Yamaguchi. Along the way, we’ll discover the buoyant American optimism that shaped chance – as in a single encounter that changed cellist Yo-Yo Ma’s life forever – to pave the road to success.

 Becoming American

Episode Two explores the many journeys to becoming American that defined the “Century of Immigration” (1820s – 1924) and transformed the United States from a sleepy agrarian country into a booming industrial power. Stephen Colbert’s Irish great-great-grandfather escaped poverty and religious oppression in Limerick and never looked back, whereas Mario Batali’s great-grandfather, who left the place where his family had lived for centuries, struggled to survive in the quartz mines of Montana. Her Majesty Queen Noor’s Syrian great-grandfather quickly found his footing in New York’s first Arab American community, while Kristi Yamaguchi’s grandfather faced exclusionary laws and racially-defined barriers to citizenship for decades. The obstacles, short-cuts, tragedies and successes encountered or created by the guests’ ancestors from around the world reveal the complexity of our shared history and identity as Americans.

 Making America

Episode Three tells the story of the peopling of the New World, of how land came to define the settling and identity of America, and of how the guests’ ancestors were part of this history. We discover descriptions of Meryl Streep’s eighth great-grandfather who fought in Metacom’s War; records of a land dispute in Spain that pushed Eva Longoria’s ancestors to leave for the New World; a treaty that Louise Erdrich’s Native American ancestor was forced to sign; and Yo-Yo Ma’s family genealogy in China, which gives insights into his identity he has longed for his whole life.

 Know Thyself

Episode Four takes up the search for the guests’ ancestries where the historical record leaves off and links their distinctive family histories to the broader history of “the family of man.” Combining the documented stories of some of the guests’ last known ancestors with DNA evidence, the series travel backward through time to reveal both distant relatives and surprising shared ancestral connections. Elizabeth Alexander learns that she is a direct descendent of Charlemagne, and that her paternal roots are not only European, but Jewish. Meryl Streep and Mike Nichols discover that they are distant cousins, as do Yo-Yo Ma and Eva Longoria. Interwoven with these stories and others is the journey of the host, Henry Louis Gates, Jr. as he and his father and brother undertake an historic project to have their entire genomes mapped, and thereby to learn everything they possibly can about their own family. This episode offers a compelling and thought-provoking meditation on the importance of ancestry, the meaning of family and the role of both in creating identity.

影片内容介绍

剧情简介

Filmmaker William Greaves is shooting a series of screen tests in New York City's Central Park for the two leads of a feature length movie, with the working title of "Over the Cliff". Simultaneously, he has a documentary filmmaking crew filming the behind the scenes making of the movie. In addition to seeing these two sets of footage (the film and the film of the film), the viewer also sees footage of a third film crew filming the these two in relation to what is happening overall as they film in the park while real life goes on around them, which in Bill's mind is part of the realism of the movie. "Over the Cliff" itself has no plot and no full script but only a working concept of sexuality being the movie's theme and snippets of scripted dialogue. This unstructured approach is to give the movie a sense of realism. The actors imply as much, but many of the crew

分集介绍

 Take One

In his one-of-a-kind fiction/documentary hybrid Symbiopsychotaxiplasm Take One, director William Greaves presides over a beleaguered film crew in New York’s Central Park, leaving them to try to figure out what kind of movie they’re making. A couple enacts a break-up scenario over and over, a documentary crew films a crew filming the crew, locals wander casually into the frame: the project defies easy description. Yet this wildly innovative sixties counterculture landmark remains one of the most tightly focused and insightful movies ever made about making movies. Criterion presents this long-unreleased gem in a special two-disc edition, along with its sequel, Take 2½, made thirty-five years later with executive producers Steven Soderbergh and Steve Buscemi.

 Take Two

In Manhattan's Central Park, a film crew directed by William Greaves is shooting a screen test with various pairs of actors. It's a confrontation between a couple: he demands to know what's wrong, she challenges his sexual orientation. Cameras shoot the exchange, and another camera records Greaves and his crew. Sometimes we watch the crew discussing this scene, its language, and the process of making a movie. Is there such a thing as natural language? Are all things related to sex? The camera records distractions - a woman rides horseback past them; a garrulous homeless vet who sleeps in the park chats them up. What's the nature of making a movie?

影片内容介绍

剧情简介

A unique then and now 4 part series tracing the rise and fall of Third Reich through it's massive buildings, monuments and rally grounds. By fusing first generation archival film together with colorful footage of each structure as it appears today, the Ruins of the Reich series is a chilling and fascinating journey into depths of what once was the Third Reich. A tremndous educational treasure trove.

分集介绍

 Rise To Power

Begins with a tour of the sites that played key roles in Adolf Hitler's Rise to Power. Viewers will visit Munich's Feldherrnhalle, scene of the failed Nazi beer hall Putsch of 1923 and the infamous Hotel Hanslbauer, site of the bloody SA purge known as "The Night of the Long Knives" Other visits include President von Hindenburg's lavish Neudeck estate, the Tannenberg National Memorial as well as an in-depth tour of the Fuehrer's mountain top retreat known as "The Obersalzberg" You'll see the sprawling compound as it appeared during the Third Reich and as it appears today. Highlights include Hitler's Berghof, the small teehaus on the Mooslahnerkopf, the Platterhof Hotel, Bormann's Guest house, the Gutsof, Hermann Goring's Alpine Chalet, Albert Speer's design studio, the SS Barracks and the world renowned Kehlsteinhaus more commonly known as The Eagle's Nest.

 The Glory Years

Focuses on the massive Nazi Party Rally Grounds in Nuremberg. It's here that some of the largest structures of the Third Reich can still be seen today including Albert Speer's enormous Zeppelinfield grandstands, the mammoth Congress Hall, the Hitler Youth Stadium, the war memorial on the Luitpold Field and the sprawling granite road that stretches nearly a mile long. The viewer will also take an inside tour of Hitler's Bavarian headquarters known as "the Braun haus" where the 1938 Munich conference was held which ultimately lead to the occupation of the Sudentenland and the introduction of SS Obergruppenfuhrer Reinhard Heydrich. The program concludes with an insight of Heydrich's career, his family, assassination, funeral and his clandestine grave site at the Invaliden cemetery in Berlin.

 Occupied Territories

Occupied Territories continues with a tour of the former Nazi Occupied Territories of France and Poland. Highlights include the former Warsaw ghetto, Gestapo headquarters, the notorious Pawiak Prison and the massacre field in the Palmiry Forest. Then it's on to Krakow and Oscar Schindler's Enamel works factory and the infamous Plaszow labor camp.as well as Auschwitz-Birkenau and Treblinka death camps. In France the tour continues with visits to several major fortresses along the Maginot Line including Fermont, Immerhof and Hackenberg. It's also here in Part 3 that viewers re-trace the steps of Adolf Hitler during the French surrender at Compiegne and his hastily planned tour of Paris which included the Eiffel tower, Notre Dame Cathedral and the of Napoleon. The chapter concludes with a fascination tour of the massive German U-boat Pens and along the Atlantic coast and the gigantic German Gun Batteries on the Pas-de-Calais.

 The Final Chapter

This part explores the historic series of events that lead to the fall of Hitler's thousand year Reich. Visits include the D-Day landing Beaches, General Rommel's western front headquarters and the Fuehrer's Hauptquartiers at Wolfsschlucht II and Wolfsschanze. The tour also visits to the various sites made famous during the Battle of the Bulge including Malmedy, Bastogne, the Remagen Bridge and the former Nazi Order Castle known as Vogelsang. In Berlin stops include Army General Headquarters, the execution chamber at Plotzensee Prison and Gestapo headquarters.

But without question the highlight of the "Ruins" series is the chilling inside tour of the completely intact Reichs Chancellery Bunker in Berlin. Filmed in June 1992 just moments before it was sealed for the final time, this rare film is the only known piece of footage in existence that shows how the colossal concrete structure appears today. As part of the new Chancellery Bunker system this massive underground fortress, which once connected to the Fuehrer Bunker gives viewers a truly accurate insight as to how Hitler's Bunker probably looked since both were practically identical in appearance.
