Jimmy Doherty sets out to discover if the world's farmers will be able to feed us in the future. Demand for food is expected to double within the next 40 years. Yet we can only grow food on four per cent of the earth's surface, the climate is changing and resources like water and fuel are under threat. Jimmy meets the men and women who claim to have new techniques and new technologies that will help meet these challenges.

　Brazil

Jimmy starts his journey in the giant of South America - Brazil. He discovers how to turn poisoned land into a powerhouse of world food production, joins sugar cane cutters to see how Brazil has replaced half of all its petrol use with biofuel, and finds a way to save Caiman alligators from poachers. In the Amazon, Jimmy meets an unlikely cattle rancher who claims he can save the rainforest.

　Australia

Jimmy travels to Australia, where he visits the wheat belt of Western Australia to see if farmers can overcome the global problem of soil salinity. He heads deep into the outback to catch wild animals, and takes a trip to the Murray-Darling river basin to see if vineyards can still produce good wine with only half as much water.

　USA

Jimmy visits the USA, the greatest food-producing country on earth. The farmers have put their faith in new technology to increase food output, but is it enough? In search of answers he visits the tomato fields and bioscience labs of California,a high-output pig farm in Iowa, and gets a taste of the Wild West while herding buffalo in South Dakota.

Yet it's a farm in North Carolina that offers the most surprising approach of all.

Jimmy visits Kenya, a country that struggles to feed its own population. Jimmy meets farmers near Lake Victoria who use ingenious new ways to combat pests, and scientists who produce bananas in the lab. As he travels across the country, Jimmy picks roses, milks camels and discovers Masai sheep could save farmers around the world billions of pounds. But can Kenya ever feed itself?

黄河被中华民族称为母亲河，她孕育和发祥了中国的古老文明，发源于青海省巴颜喀拉山北麓，贯穿辽阔的中国大陆，汇入山东省的渤海，全长为5464公里。黄河流域是中华民族的摇篮，它孕育出博大精深的文化内涵，哺育了亿万炎黄子孙，在中国人心目中有着举足轻重的地位。

《大黄河》是基于《丝绸之路》之后再次进行的中日共同取材的节目，记录了探索队从黄河源头至渤海的艰难旅程，将沿途的大自然景象、文化遗产、历史事迹及风土人情呈现眼前。取材班底走遍了整个黄河流域，是世界首创之举。其间，车辆不能靠近的悬崖峭壁的险境很多。为此，通过伐舟、骑马和骑牦牛等动物各种各样的手段进行取材，甚至也进行了全流域的空中拍摄，行走距离比地球赤道长度还多出5万公里。

　【追寻黄河之源】

黄河在中国人心目中一直占有很重要的位置。现在有一队探索队要寻找它的源头，跟随它延绵五千五百公里直至大海。这集节目记录了他们的旅程。

　【下游激流旅程】

在西藏的暮色之中，有三架越野吉普车在迂回曲折的路上行走。当探索队找到中国最伟大的河流黄河的源头之后，他们又沿着河道继续着他们的旅程。

　【探索塔尔寺】

黄水源头在青海省山区，它和黄河一样，将不同的商业、旅客、文化和传统在甘肃人民当中流传，塔尔寺位处这条分流之上，探索队决定前往探索这座寺庙。

　【异境之民】

黄河一路上记录了地大物博的中国境内各式各样的面貌，由高原地区的蒙古、西藏人到中游地区的汉族和满族人。黄河揭示了中国人不同的生活面貌。

　【鄂尔多斯之兴亡】

鄂尔多斯意思是一个有许多城堡的地方，汉族和匈奴几百年来不断为了主权问题，在整条丝绸之路与鄂尔多斯地区多次交战。在鄂尔多斯沙漠的流沙之下，埋藏了很多惨烈战事的遗迹。

　【脚下的百万都市】

黄河之名源于其河水中带有的黄色细微沙土，它们被风吹，或被雨水冲刷，大量流入河中，沙土积聚在河底成为淤泥，令黄河水位上升至接近河岸的水平。

　【中华民族的摇篮】

中国的历史源远流长，早期的黄河文化是世界四大古文明之一，黄河流域的第一个文化大约距今七千年，对后世有极为深远的影响，很多传统至今依然得以保存。

　【驯服金色巨龙】

一月正值隆冬，黄河已经结了冰，由山上吹来的狂风静止了黄河汹涌的河水，停止了它的一切活动。当令它静止不动的雪开始融化时，黄河就会释放出十足力量。

　【佛陀之路】

佛教由印度，经由丝绸之路传到中国，再到黄河盆地，由龙门石窟一路到东面的山东省，再传到整个东方世界。黄河，再一次在中国文化和历史中发挥它重要的作用。

　【黄河入海】

经过五千五百公里的旅程之后，黄河终于开始接近它的目的地--大海。不止是黄河的河水，不止是淤泥，黄河还是中国人过去、现在和将来的生命之源。

In September 2007 Sir Richard Branson's friend, the record-breaking aviator Steve Fossett, disappeared on a pleasure flight. There were rumours that Fossett, who had made the first solo balloon flight around the world, was in Argentina or that he had faked his death. His loss sparked the biggest peacetime search-and-rescue operation in the history of the United States. Over the ensuing weeks, reports surfaced of hundreds - even thousands - of missing aircraft in a triangular area of the Sierra Nevada Mountains that ranges from some of the highest peaks to the lowest point - Death Valley - in the USA.
