　　9岁的中国乡下女孩万老仰罹患了罕见的遗传性疾病着色性干皮病，这种疾病使她的皮肤被紫外线照射后无法自行复原。短短9年间，阳光已经对万老仰造成不少伤害，带来的影响更是深远。她满脸都是肿瘤，盖住鼻子、左眼和上唇。由于缺乏现代化医疗资源，她的家乡小镇和家人只能用自制草药为她治疗。由于阳光会造成伤害，因此万老仰几乎完全无法出门，直到转机终于出现。 Discovery频道推出《怕光的女孩》，介绍一位医师致力研究不为人知的著色性干皮病，以及他努力治疗万老仰的先天疾病的过程。

在2001年二月，塔利班政權下令摧毀阿富汗境內所有非伊斯蘭的雕像，其中包括已經一千六百年歷史的巴米揚山谷Bamiyanvalley巨佛。千餘年來，巴米揚巨佛見證了阿富汗地帶的歷史變遷，從阿拉伯、波斯、成吉思汗的蒙古大軍等，不管歷將多少死亡與破壞，沒有一個政權大膽地將其毀滅；如今這兩尊見證千年歷史變遷的巴米揚巨佛被塔利班政權炸毀，之所以讓全世界關心政治、歷史、宗教的專家學者痛心。

曾獲奧斯卡最佳紀錄片提名的瑞士導演克里斯欽佛瑞Christian Frei，在事件發生後，四度造訪巴米揚，並開始拍攝【阿富汗巨佛生死劫】一片。紀錄片採取多重敘事手法製作，追溯幾世紀前拜訪巨佛的中國玄奘大師的腳步，巴米揚巨佛被摧毀及重建過程，如何影響當地居民、阿富汗移民...並將之與自己前往阿富汗的行程並置，全片挑戰不同文化、政治觀點呈現。

曾經應邀來台的導演克里斯欽佛瑞表示：「看待巨佛被毀又重建本就有很多觀點和爭議，所以才要以多線進行的方式，來以對抗基本教義派非黑即白的絕對態度。」

中微子被称作原子中的鬼粒子ghost particle。这是 Feynman 发现的。Neutrino中微子：核反应和超新星爆发中产生的一种粒子，比原子更基本，质量很小或没有质量，几乎不与物质发生作用；中微子不带电荷，运动速度达到（如果其质量为零）或接近光速（如果其具有质量）。

２０世纪３０年代，科学家发现原子核在衰变前后的能量不一致。瑞士物理学家泡利对此提出假设，有种新粒子“窃走了”能量。后来的发现证明泡利的假设是正确的，物理学家费米遂将这种微小的中性粒子称为中微子。中微子无处不在，以光速飞奔，却又几乎不与周围的物质作用。在自然界里，中微子产生于太阳内的放射性衰变过程，或者宇宙射线中，它可以揭示宇宙质量及浩瀚太空中各种星体的许多奥秘。

１９８２年，美国费米实验室科学家用实验支持了τ 子中微子存在的假设。１９８９年，欧洲核子研究中心科学家证实τ子中微子是标准模型中的第三个、也是最后一个中微子，但他们无法找到直接证据。

１９９４年，加利福尼亚大学研究生维多里奥·保罗内和费米实验室的物理学家布雷南·伦德博格提出了“τ 子中微子直接观测器”的构想，并得到了费米国家实验室的支持。直接观测器于１９９６年建造完成。从１９９７年开始，美、日、希、韩的５４名科学家用它探测τ子中微子，历时三年终于找到它存在的证据。

中微子的发现，对于人类揭开物质构成之谜以及探求宇宙天体奥秘等都有重要意义。但此次发现τ子中微子存在的直接证据并不意味着粒子物理学篇章的完成。研究人员正在探索中微子是否有质量，其结果就有可能影响粒子物理学的标准模型，并使人们对宇宙的演化、构成等有更深的认识。

The story begins with the composer's father Leopold with whom Mozart conducted a passionate and tortured correspondence. It is Leopold who knows Mozart's secrets. And there is another voice: that of the music itself. Music is the key to unlocking the emotions of Mozart, starting in this film with the great piano works. Without this key, how can we ever understand the emotions that gave birth to some of the most beautiful sounds the world has ever heard?

　A Passion for the Stage

Charles Hazlewood examines three of Mozart's greatest operas, and shows how The Magic Flute. Idomeneo, and The Marriage of Figaro revolutionised the musical theatre.

The first great phase of Mozart's brief life was that of the travelling child prodigy - gifted as a performer and writer of music - who grew into the genius who, working within the restrictions of his time, began to rewrite the musical rules.

But there was another facet to Mozart - the adult thinker aware of the bigger picture, passionately attached to the progressive values of the Enlightenment - impressively well-read, a speaker of most European languages (even a little English), an Austrian Catholic, a Freemason and above all a composer at the height of his formidable powers, determined to succeed in the most difficult and lucrative area of all - Opera.

　The First Romantic

The third and final film in the series examines how, towards the end of his life, Mozart mastered the language of instrumental and orchestral writing - and how both love and loss provoked in him an extraordinary burst of creativity. This was essentially crystallised in three ambitious works that changed the future course of music: his last, great trilogy of symphonies - numbers 39, 40 and 41 - which he wrote in six short weeks.

Alongside the celebrated names, from Wedgwood to William Morris, it also explores the work of the anonymous designers responsible for prosaic but classic designs for cast-iron cooking pots to sheep shears - harbingers of a breed of industrially produced objects culminating in the Model T Ford. Includes interviews with legendary designer Dieter Rams and J Mays, Ford Motors' global head of design.

　Designs for Living

In the crisis-stricken decades of the 1920s and 1930s, with the world at the tipping point between two global wars, design suggested dramatically different ideas about the shape of things to come, from the radical futurism of the Bauhaus to the British love affair with mock-Tudor architecture and the three-piece suite.

In Europe, the 'modern movement' promoted the virtues of the machine and the machine-made with theories and products like open-plan living, the fitted kitchen and tubular steel furniture which have become absorbed into the mainstream of the designed world. In the USA, designers like Raymond Loewy and Henry Dreyfuss explored and exploited the dreams and desires of American consumers to develop a market-based approach to design which has become one of the bedrocks of the modern consumer society. 　Blueprints for War

The Genius of Design examines the Second World War through the prism of the rival war machines designed and built in Germany, Britain, the USSR and the USA, with each casting a fascinating sidelight on the ideological priorities of the nations and regimes which produced them.

From the desperate improvisation of the Sten gun, turned out in huge numbers by British toy-makers, to the deadly elegance of the all-wood Mosquito fighter-bomber, described as 'the finest piece of furniture ever made', the stories behind these products reveal how definitions of good design shift dramatically when national survival is at stake. Featuring desert war veteran Peter Gudgin and designer Michael Graves.

　Better Living Through Chemistry

The story of design enters the 50s and 60s, when a revolutionary new material called plastic combined with the miracles of electronic miniaturisation to allow designers to offer post-war consumers something new: liberation.

Designer Verner Panton pursued the seemingly impossible dream of a chair made from a seamless piece of plastic while Joe Colombo proposed the Austin Powers-style 'cabriolet bed', complete with built-in cigarette lighter and stereo. Meanwhile in Japan, designers at Sony were shrinking radios from pocket-size to palm-size, paving the way for the ultimate in portable lifestyle-the Walkman. But the optimism of the era came to an abrupt end when concerns about the environmental impact of plastic came to the fore.

Featuring Sony master designer Teiyu Goto, Alberto Alessi and Stephen Bayley.

　Objects of Desire

Picking up the story of design from the drab days of the late 70s, the final episode tracks the explosion of wild creativity that defined the 'designer decades' of the 80s and early 90s. By addressing wants rather than needs and allying themselves to the blatant consumerism of 'retail culture' designers emerged from the backrooms to claim a starring role in the shaping of modern life.

Designers also played a decisive role in making the world-changing power of computer and digital technology available to the masses through the design of keyboards, the mouse and the 'desktop'. And now, with concerns growing daily about our insatiable appetite for 'stuff', designers are also offering new ideas about sustainable consumption for the future.

In the first part of the series, Richard Dawkins retraces Darwin's journey as a scientist. He re-examines the rich evidence of the natural world – iguanas on the Galapagos islands, giant fossilised sloths in the Americas and even pigeons back home in England – which opened Darwin's eyes to the extraordinary truth that all living things must be related and had evolved from a common ancestor.

Darwin knew his espousal of evolution would cause outrage, challenging, as it did, the prevailing religious view of the world and our place in it. But, as Dawkins explains, it was really his theory of natural selection that undermined the notion of a benevolent God who designed all creatures great and small. Returning to his own birthplace, Kenya, Dawkins considers the brutal realities of the struggle for existence for wild animals on the plains of Africa. Here, he argues, we see the ongoing process sex, suffering and death, that drives evolution onward as the fittest survive to reproduce and the weakest perish without offspring.

　The Fifth Ape

In the second episode Richard Dawkins deals with some of the philosophical and social ramifications of the theory of evolution.

Dawkins starts out in Kenya, speaking with palaeontologist Richard Leakey. He then visits Christ is the Answer Ministries, Kenya's largest Pentecostal church, to interview Bishop Bonifes Adoyo. Adoyo has led the movement to press Kenya's national museum to sideline its collection of hominid bones pointing to man's evolution from ape to human.[5] The collection includes the Turkana Boy discovered by Kamoya Kimeu, a member of a team led by Richard Leakey in 1984.

Dawkins discusses social darwinism and eugenics, explaining how these are not versions of natural selection, and that "Darwin has been wrongly tainted".

He then meets with evolutionary psychologist Steven Pinker to discuss how morals can be compatible with natural selection. He goes on to explaining sexual selection, with peafowls as an example. To find out whether sexual selection plays a role for altruism and kindness among humans, he visits women who are looking for sperm donors, as well as a sperm bank manager. Dawkins also explains kin selection and selfish genes.

Richard Dawkins on natural selection, creationism and intelligent design In this final episode Dawkins examines why Darwin's theory remains one of the most controversial ideas in history.

As Darwin set out on the voyage on the Beagle he still believed that god created the world and everything in it. But the evidence he discovered - fossils, patterns of anatomical resemblance, startling similarities of embryos and domestic breeding - demonstrated the truth: that all life forms vary and that some are more likely to reproduce, passing variations on. His wife Emma, however, was deeply religious and Darwin never criticised religion in public but he believed that "science would bring about a gradual illumination of minds".

Today, Dawkins argues, science has the evidence to prove that evolution is true. Modern discovery of the DNA code which links all life has added to the mountain of evidence showing that evolution is a fact. So why, he wonders as he meets creationists in America, is opposition to evolution more aggressive than ever?
