“Methadonia” is the name heroin junkies and former users give to the gray space between addiction and sobriety, when recovering users are put on methadone “maintenance” as they struggle to get clean–a transition that can take months, years, or even decades. Director Michel Negroponte’s gritty, sharp documentary follows a diverse group of recovering addicts as they go through this process, getting high legally (and in some cases with a little boost from illegally obtained prescription drugs) with, often, no end in sight.
