He begins by retracing his steps from Sicily's beaches and explores Italy's surrender, while at the same time reflecting on the bravery of friends who did not survive the conflict......

Alan Whicker concludes the two-part programme retracing the World War Two campaign in Italy using footage shot by the Army's own film unit, which the presenter joined as an 18-year-old in 1943. He chronicles the Italian surrender, which did little to abate the fierceness of the German troops, and recalls his exploits behind enemy lines. Whicker also remembers witnessing the death of Mussolini and accepting the surrender of the SS in Rome as the war came to an end - beginning a new and exciting ......
